Katie Allen, MPH, CYT, E-RYT 500
Katie co-founded Be The Change Yoga, the first donation-based Yoga studio in Orange County. She received her Masters in Public Health from Tulane University, specializing in maternal and child health and wrote her thesis on yoga’s ability to prevent and treat chronic diseases. She worked on the ground in post-Katrina New Orleans in the Common Ground Health Clinic’s Latino Health Outreach Program, developed and facilitated health education and yoga therapy courses in Spanish for MOMS, a non-profit organization in Santa Ana, CA and spent months in Guatemala researching indigenous Mayan health disparities and public health initiatives.
After graduate school, she actively pursued the study of Yoga, completing a 200-hour yoga teacher training, 300-hour advanced yoga teacher training and Loyola Marymount’s Yoga Therapy Rx Program with Larry Payne. Katie also spent a month at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in Chennai, India enrolled in a Yoga Sutras certificate course.
She has been leading 200-hour teacher trainings since 2010 and 300-hour teacher trainings since 2012. She managed a wellness center (Soul at Home) for seven years and developed their yoga therapy department; which included program development, administration and evaluation. She developed the yoga therapy department for Newport Academy’s in-patient and out-patient facilities; which is a treatment facility for teens experiencing addiction and co-occurring disorders (2009-2014). She opened up Orange County’s first donation-based yoga studio in 2013 with the intention of becoming Orange County’s center for higher education and yoga therapy. She also serves on the board of The Share Necessities; which is a non-profit organization that provides transformational tools of mindfulness, meditation and yoga for underprivileged and at-risk youth.
Most recently she developed Orange County’s first 800-hour Yoga Therapist Training Program; which she directs at Be The Change Yoga. In addition, she is actively working with Hoag Hospital’s Center for Health Living to build out comprehensive yoga therapy and health education programs for underserved communities in Orange County.
She is honored and privileged to have the opportunity to dedicate her life to spreading mind-body medicine. Her mission is to empower individuals and communities to not only become healthier but provide tools to create joyful, purposeful lives.
